house • music monday

a masterful layering of beats, stellar vocals and sweet lyrics are the basis behind the song "house" by kindness.
kindness, aka adam bainbridge, is a british artist that brings light to mixed electronic music with his amazing voice and fun rhythms. really digging his album world, you need a change of mind, which, must like his songs, bring a change to the idea of electronic music. plus he's easy on the eyes ♥

artwork

so i have an utter fascination with images and typography. i have ever since i was a little girl, which is why i believe i was so drawn to the world of advertising, which is my career of choice and what I do. i had to be able to use art and business knowledge together and thankfully i was able to do so and love every minute of it.

i have always been a painter and love to draw and design things and take photos.  this past summer i was on holiday in europe for about a month and took so many wonderful pictures (over 1500, between my iphone, my digital slr, and my flip cam). when i got home and was going through my photos, i started to notice how many interesting ways they could be blended and melded together. then boom, i had an idea.

i started layering and collaging images and then adding quotes and sayings that i liked and felt were expressed through the imagery.

new additions to my home...

sometimes i get into these really energetic and random moods whilst at home... sometimes i clean like a person on crack (i am assuming), sometimes i start on a bunch of jewellery making, or sometimes i just decide to rearrange and change things at home. which is precisely what i did last week one night after getting off from work.

here's what i did...

• shoe organisation is a must, and i used bookshelves in my closet to optimise space.
• my treasured "crux" blankets (the baby is the natural & the large is the black) • west elm rug

• my inspiration board that i got inspiration for from lily // lamp from ikea's jul collection //
filled with my own travel finds, travel photos & some of my favourite quotes & 3-d butterflies (my fav)

my inspiration wall above my television in the living room // ampersand from anthropologie //
includes prints that i designed with quotes that inspire me & some postcards from the getty museum.

november skies • music mondays

i discovered this song via refinery29's year's best of 2012 in music and have been hooked ever since. tomas,  a danish drummer and dj, soulfully mixes his love of beats with the stunning swedish vocalist nina kinert.
nina's voice is to die for, and tomas' beautifully blended beats make my heart swoon.

swedish haus mafia

i am not implying the music, but rather my slight obsession with swedish homes, well mostly swedish homes, i cannot leave out the beauty of many scandinavian homes i have fallen for.

not the typically ikea look-books of the past, but of the exceptionally stellar homes of artists, designers  musician, photographers and overall amazing people who live in sweden and have opened up a new world of beauty to me in terms of home decor. i had never been much of one particular style when it came to my home, a mix of things old and new, items given to me by friends and my parents of course. i have moved about 5 times in the past 7 years, mostly into one bedroom apartments, so i kind of felt a sense of being on the go and incomplete in terms of decor. i have never painted a wall in any of my places (except for my home now, it came with kraft colored walls), choosing to instead to adorn things with paintings and pictures that i have created or clipped or collected... all of it kind of a mix of different eras and colors. nothing tacky, just nothing quite in the right relation to everything.

that is until i discovered my love for swedish modernity.

i never, ever thought that i like scarcity and simple lines and a palette of shades and tones, rather than true colors. but it was in my discovery of swedish homes and decor that i began to see the absolutely stunning things that could be done with minimalism in terms of how things are placed, the scarcity of color and the beauty of simplistic things, including beautiful rustic pieces and industrial designs, typography (which is a major passion of mine) and lots and lots of gorgeous textures.

it has become my new obsession to truly care for the place that i am living in, to enjoy it and make it my own, to fill it with items that i love and stay true to a new kind of modern that is not the "one chair and flat sofa and no decor on the table" that i thought modern was.

so i have to say thank you to the swedes, the norwegians, and even a few very inspiring americans whom have opened my eyes and my heart to this modern elegance.
